Food, Waste and New Playgrounds

An Investigation

Celebration of Harvest - On Tuesday 26th October, we held our annual Harvest Service. We do this each year to remind us to be thankful for our food and not to waste it. In our service we sang songs, showed paintings of our favourite foods, read poems and things we had written in class and said prayers thanking God.

Some of the Year 6 children decided to investigate the older children's attitude to food at lunch time. Did children eat all, most, some or none of their food each day and what they did they do with waste food and food wrappings? The results are below.

The results were very encouraging with children eating most or all of their lunch. They were also very good at putting rubbish in the litter bins. There were also many children who took sandwiches, fruit and other things home again to eat it later.

New Playgrounds

Can you see the rubbish bin? The answer is below.
We have three new larger areas for play and games, but the teachers and children are considering how to use these areas to encourage children's care and thought for their environment. Have you any ideas? Please send them to us.
The bin is small and yellow.
